What is the Rally for Sustainability?

It started out simply as another challenge for ourselves and fans. A Rally with an Eco-twist. In addition to being fun for thrill seekers, the Bazooka Team members have a commitment to sustainable living and supporting a Local First way of life in our community. The eco-aspect of the Rally led us to get out and explore West Michigan in search of compatible challenges for the event. We had no idea what the sustainable landscape and culture looked like up close. Suffice to say, we were Blown Away!

We discovered organizations, educational facilities, and municipal practices that
we were never truly aware of before. Sure, we shop at the farmers’ markets from
time to time, support local businesses, recycle, etc., but we were never fully aware
of the bigger picture.

Did you know that GVSU has an entire research and development facility in Grand Haven that is dedicated to alternative energy technologies? Do you know where your water comes from, how it is treated and the steps our municipalities are taking to conserve this precious resource? What’s a CSA? Have you ever been to a local farm to witness and buy wholesome, locally raised food, where quality is the focus over quantity? Do you know just exactly what a Green Roof is and what its benefits are?  What organizations are already leading the charge and how can we get involved?

Innovation and Passion for Sustainability are going full force in our community and we want to rev up your engines and get you as excited as we are about our great state and why we are proud to call it home. Let’s live together, practice together, educate together, and have fun together.
